A Place for Art, Design and Craft in Dialogue: Common Ground

A Place for Art, Design and Craft in Dialogue

COMMON GROUND

In the heart of Hamburg, within the quiet architecture of a former school of art, Common Ground is taking shape — a new space dedicated to the meeting of disciplines, materials and ideas.
It brings together a circle of creative practitioners who share a belief in the value of making, collaboration and thoughtful exchange.

Common Ground emerges from a simple premise: that creative practices — whether in design, art or craft — do not exist in isolation. They are connected by shared gestures of thought and process. The space is conceived as a working framework that allows these intersections to unfold naturally, through proximity and dialogue.

Among the founding members are Schneid Studio, known for its poetic approach to design and material; We are Studio Studio, a ceramic practice grounded in craftsmanship yet guided by a strong artistic and material-driven sensibility; and Studio Bott, a fashion and textile design studio working with weaving and structural experimentation.
Together, they form the initial core of a growing constellation of designers, artists and craftspeople who will inhabit and shape Common Ground.

Located in a historic building in central Hamburg, the space combines private studios with shared areas for work, reflection and presentation. Within its high ceilings and soft northern light, each room carries traces of its educational past — now transformed into a contemporary environment for research, material exploration and creative production.

Common Ground will also include a showroom and exhibition space, providing Schneid Studios with a new physical presence in Hamburg. Beyond the daily studio work, the venue will serve as a platform for conceptual events, gatherings and conversations that explore the evolving relationship between material, form and thought.

The project will begin its journey in December 2025 with a Soft Opening, offering first insights into the space and its founding vision.
From there, Common Ground will continue to evolve — as both a working environment and a living dialogue between disciplines, committed to the beauty of process and the power of shared ground.
